A game about pollination
In Superbloom, you play as a bumblebee moving from flower to flower to cross-pollinate them, creating new hybrids between the different types and growing more flowers. The more you pollinate, the more the field is filled with new blooms. I created all the music and sound design in this simple game. It was pretty light on sound effects, but I had a lot of fun making the little musical flourishes that happen when you successfully pollinate a flower!

A game about pollination
For this game, I created a score that adds instruments and grows in orchestration as more and more flowers grow, created as a multi-layered event in FMOD. Unfortunately, this game was made under an extremely tight timeline, and the music never got wired up properly, so it stays the same the whole time! It was after this project that I really stepped up my documentation so that developers would have a more clear idea of how audio events should wire into the code.

Lessons learned
Aside from getting the dynamic music properly wired up, I think if I were to do this project over, I’d include more SFX, like something for landing on flowers, and a sparkly sound for when the bee is carrying pollen. (There was a buzzing sound, but I don’t think that got wired up.) Ah well, you win some and you lose some. This project was a great learning experience for me, especially when it comes to knowing how to effectively communicate with a development team.
